SONIC STORYTELLER ROGER DINARDI RELEASES A MUSICAL ODYSSEY THROUGH SEVEN UNIVERSAL TALES
“12 Notes for 7 Stories” Weaves Universal Narratives Through Sound
First Single “Overcoming the Monster” Now Available
LONGMONT, CO – May 3, 2025
Local audio wizard and Longmont Public Media audio studio manager Roger Dinardi has released his first new music since experiencing severe COVID-related hearing alterations, “12 Notes for 7 Stories,” a captivating musical journey through the seven universal story archetypes that define human experience. The first single, “Overcoming the Monster,” and the full album are now available on all major streaming platforms.
From Silent Isolation to Sonic Exploration
When COVID-19 severely altered Dinardi’s hearing in 2020-2021, leaving him with significant auditory challenges and tinnitus, he faced severe depression, verging on suicidal despair. Rather than surrendering to the darkness, Dinardi found a lifeline through music creation.
“Every sound was a struggle, but I kept going,” says Dinardi. “I decided to create an album as a way to re-learn how to hear and play music.”
The result is a 30-minute sonic adventure that takes listeners through the full spectrum of human storytelling, from epic quests to comic relief, crafted by someone who found healing through the very medium that seemed forever lost to him. For Dinardi, this album wasn’t just an artistic endeavor—it was a path back to mental health and renewed purpose.
Musical Storytelling with Colorado Roots
As the manager of the audio studio at Longmont Public Media (a local non-profit media maker-space) and a founding member of Cosmos Cooperative (a collaborative community for visionary creators), Dinardi brings his passion for community and creativity to every track.
Throughout his time in Colorado, Dinardi has eagerly embraced collaborations with local musicians, poets, storytellers, and filmmakers. These creative partnerships have enriched his approach to “12 Notes for 7 Stories,” allowing him to weave diverse artistic modalities into a cohesive musical tapestry.
The album follows the seven archetypal stories outlined by literary scholars: Overcoming the Monster, Rags to Riches, The Quest, Voyage and Return, Comedy, Tragedy, and Rebirth. Each composition delivers these timeless narratives through Dinardi’s unique musical lens.
An Unconventional Musical Journey
What makes Dinardi’s approach particularly fascinating is his unique musical background. Having grown up in a strict religious household with limited exposure to outside music, Dinardi rarely heard popular music until adulthood. When he finally discovered the underground music scene, it ignited a passion unbound by genre conventions.
“No matter who you are, every day and every life is a collection of our own versions of these universal plots,” reflects Dinardi. “Then the Universe and beyond can understand and experience what it is to be the existence that is you.”
While Dinardi performs nearly all vocals, guitars, keyboards, and percussion on the album himself, the project also features contributions from his network of creative collaborators. These include backing vocals from friends and a haunting recitation of Roald Dahl’s poetry featured on “Overcoming the Monster.” This collaborative spirit reflects Dinardi’s ongoing cross-pollination with Colorado’s vibrant artistic communities. Putting the finishing touches on the richly evocative soundscape, the album was mastered by legendary engineer Bernie Grundman, known for his work with artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Steely Dan.
First Single: “Overcoming the Monster”
The lead single explores how modern monsters are often reflections of ourselves. “When we overcome our own internal monsters—fear, greed, hate, and judgment—then things improve,” explains Dinardi. “If not, our efforts are just another version of the same human flaws.”
This funky, rock-infused track balances depth with humor, addressing the universal monsters we all face daily—from self-doubt to societal pressure—while keeping a groove that makes confronting these challenges feel possible. The song speaks to everyone’s battle with their personal demons. “It ain’t no secret, I’m a monster too,” Dinardi sings in one of the track’s most revelatory moments.
Colorado poet Marco V Morelli, author of I AM THE SINGULARITY (Untimely Books, 2025), describes the album as “a brilliant fusion of ballsy energy and timeless literary structures. The way Roger weaves archetypal narratives into thumping compositions gives listeners multiple layers to explore—you can dance to it or dive deep into its meanings.”
